Qlockwork – Time Tracking Software
Review by on
Some of us may be attracted to using a time tracking software application so that we could see how much time we spend in front of the computer. For example it would be nice to see how much time you spent on that presentation you know nobody is going to pay attention to. Other people on the other hand need to know precisely how much time they spent working on something – because they get paid by the hour.

If you fall in the category of people that get paid by the hour, then you may be interested in taking a look at Qlockwork, a desktop application for the Windows-powered system that turns time tracking into a piece of cake. What Qlockwork does is automatically track what you do on your PC, then synchronize it with a new Outlook calendar where a detailed report on how much time you spent doing something is presented.

Qlockwork can track your time as you use a wide range of applications for the Windows operating system. This includes the Office productivity suite, the Internet Explorer or the Firefox browser, the popular IM (instant messaging) and VoIP (voice over internet protocol) application Skype, and many more. It is all done in a very accurate fashion. The truth of the matter is that Qlockwork is not like regular timesheet based systems; it automatically tracks time and is thus quite accurate.

Because Qlockwork is not a timesheet based system, it means that you do not need to bother with things like filling in a timesheet, remembering what you did, learning to handle a new UI (everything is done via Outlook), or having to start a timer. Everything is automatic, no timers are required.

There are several areas in which Qlockwork will come in handy. For example it will improve billing accuracy since it automatically tracks time to 5 minutes. And it will help you be more productive by showing you how you spent your time and thus helping you weed out time wasters. Last but not least, Qlockwork improves project management by providing simple reports detailing how time is spent on projects.

If I had to select just four words to describe Qlockwork, I’d have to choose these ones: fast, easy, safe, confidential.

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Uses Outlook so you don’t have to learn how to handle a new UI (user interface)
  • No timers
  • Can track a wide variety of programs

Cons
  • Can be used free of charge only during the trial period
